My Ode to Fall


Hi folks! Last week has been so hectic with my oldest daughter leaving for college for the first time and back to school for the youngest. We are still trying to get back to our regular schedule. Fall is approaching fast with cooler evenings and falling leaves!

  Before I go any further with this post I would  like to take the time to express my heartfelt thanks, appreciation, and gratitude to these lovely ladies for featuring my Tuscan Foyer and Kitchen herb station in their wonderful weekly parties! I am truly humbled to be included among the beautifully inspiring ideas and projects found in this land of blog! It lifts my spirit and warms my heart! To my wonderful readers, I just would like to add that do stop by and visit these links if you are looking for some inspiration or would like to share your very own. You won't be disappointed!

Living in the northeast with long months of winter, summer is  the most coveted season. But I have to say that fall is my favorite season, short though it may be! At this time of year, I love adding a touch of fall to my home decor.


The spectacular colors of autumn speaks a language of its own:

To me, fall is in the traditional colors of the mums:


in the vibrant color of the pumpkins:

it's in the rusty hues of the faded and withered leaves strewn on the lawn:

and the woodsy smell of the pine cones:


Fall is in the cool crisp air as I take a brisk wall on a perfect autumn evening:


  and watch the sun set over the orange, red, and yellow trees:

and pathways lit with enchanting fall luminaries to welcome the twilight hour:

Brings warmth and color and light on an outdoor fall porch.

 They look so pretty all lined up on my porch steps

Herb Station



Hi there! Summer is almost over. My kids go back to school in a week, and my older one moving into college. Evenings are getting a lot cooler, and I can smell the crisp autumn air! It's that time of the year when I bring a lot of the plants inside to protect them from the cooler weather.
I like using fresh herbs in my cooking, and I have many of them growing outside in my garden and some in pots. I have some sitting on my kitchen window sill:


Close at hand and ready to snip whenever I need them:

I love recycling various tin food cans for my indoor herb garden:

I found these reusable chalkboard labels at the local craft store:

I can re-position them or write on them with chalk as many times as I want! Very easy to use, and no mess. I'm really loving them:

The potted herbs sit in a clay saucer lined with pebbles:

The green herbs look so pretty in these simple tin cans, and it's such a neat way to reuse them:

Keeping them grouped together in the saucer...

 ...makes them easy to transfer from the window sill to my herb station and ready for use in salad dressings, 

marinades, and dipping sauces......

.....or for flavoring oils

and vinegar.

Herb infused olive oil tastes delicious with freshly baked bread

Having a herb station on my kitchen counter keeps everything organized, makes dinner preparations easier for me, and even my kids can help me with the meal:

 The rooster and hen is one of my favorite salt and pepper shaker collections that I picked up from a little home decor store while vacationing in San Diego
