Fairy Tale Summer Evenings

Follow on Bloglovin

Enchanting summer evenings have always captivated me! I love puttering around in my yard, inhaling the smell of freshly mowed grass, gathering the freshly cut flowers for a beautiful summer bouquet, or simply walking barefoot on wet, dewy grass as dusk gently falls upon the horizon.
My perennial border is in full bloom, and I'm having so much fun playing in my garden:

"Hearts they have of shining gold,
Rays of shining whiteness:"

"Blow, O blow you happy winds,
Singing summer's praises:"

Loving the simple elegance of the beautiful Shasta daisy as dusk slowly descends:

Soft candle light in old mason jars create a fairy tale romance in my garden:

I love blue Mason jars! Any place, any time, any setting, they beckon me:

They look magical in any vignette or tablesetting:

No garden setting can be complete without a little birdie singing a sweet melody:

A little votive burning under a metal cloche renders a dreamy setting:

The simple basket is a recent garage sale find for only a quarter. I applied a coat of gesso to shabby it up a little, and the embossed chipboard tags from Michaels craft store got a coating of chalkboard paint as well:

Love how the chalkboard tag looks with the white flower basket:

The brown kraft paper cones make perfect little posies of daisies:

I had transplanted this lavender bush from my front yard last year. I'm happy to say it is doing very well this year in its new location:

I hope you liked spending time with me in my summer garden.  I have enjoyed the pleasure of your company and loving comments. Hope you will stop by soon and say hello :)

Summer Entertaining

Follow on Bloglovin

Hi everyone! It is a  beautiful and sunny Sunday afternoon, and I'm loving it! Especially after a really rainy week. Some  friends stopped by for a casual get-together, and I had a lot of fun setting up this  tablescape with a patriotic flair:

The red-white-and-blue quilted pillow on the bistro style chair adds a lovely accent to the entire theme:

I used my favorite quilt as a table topper:

I love summer entertaining out on the deck or patio:

Lemonade served in glass jars is a summer staple:

Made with freshly squeezed lemons:

And lemons stored in a small wooden box:

Or under a glass cloche:

Fruit kebabs on wooden skewers:

Marshmallows and brownie squares added to strawberries and blueberries make scrumptious dessert. The patriotic food labels were found HERE:

I used similar labels as a lemonade tag as well:

Crackers and striped blue pirouline in fun metal baskets make yummy treats:

I found these fun metal baskets for 99 cents each at Walmart:

Red, white, and blue make striking and colorful accents in any decorating theme, don't you think?

I lined the baskets with paper doilies:

and filled the brown kraft paper packages with potato chips:

They make nifty potato chips bag:

The wire basket holds the chips packages, and also is a wonderful way to carry and pass them around to guests:

I love mason jars! They serve a multitude of purposes. Here, I'm using them as a flatware holder:

I lined each mason jar with blue or red bandannas, which serve as napkins as well:

Also, the guests can use the mason jars for their lemonade:

Hollowed out multicolored peppers make beautiful bowls for dipping sauces:

I filled them with chives and onion dip for the crackers:

I had fun with my patriotic tablescape, and I hope you enjoyed it as well! Thanks for stopping by and for your lovely comments. I love reading all of
them! It was a pleasure having you over!

Graduation Party Theme

Follow on Bloglovin

Hello, dear friends! It feels so wonderful to return from my long hiatus, visit my favorite blogs, and catch up with their latest innovative projects. I missed you so much and have been catching up these last few weeks. This past year has been so hectic with so much going on in my life along with the college application  process of my oldest daughter. Well, I am happy to say that after a long journey she has finally graduated as valedictorian of her class and will be attending Brown University in the fall.

Last weekend was her graduation ceremony as well as her graduation party, and I wanted to share some of the pictures from her party.
The Graduating Class of 2013

Red and gold are the school colors, so I wanted to incorporate the same color theme for the party:

Paper lanterns hung from apple trees:

I made the the pennant banners from scraps of calico and then strung them around the yard and the buffet tables:

The chalkboard circles in the center of the calico banner started out as unfinished wooden circles from the local craft store. Then, I spray painted the circles with chalkboard paint:

The centerpieces for each table were simple mason jars wrapped in burlap:
 filled with summer blooms:
and tied with gingham ribbon made from fabric scraps:

They make simple and cute floral centerpieces:

Perfect for a summer outdoor party:

Under the tent with tables covered in red and yellow gingham checks:

Fun times with family and friends:

and fun summer outdoor games:

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and visit me. It is a pleasure having you over and have missed you so much! I'm so sorry I have been unable to keep up with blogging these past few months, but now I'm back and am having a wonderful time catching up on all your wonderful projects.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hugs, Poppy
