A Beachy Transformation

Hello everyone!
I love adding nautical and beachy accents to my living room decor in the summer months. A neutral color palette in the living room makes the aqua colored accents stand out beautifully.
This small metal blue pail from the Dollar Store makes a wonderful beachy candle holder. I painted a black trim to the top of the pail:
Hot glued some twine and sea shells around the top and bottom of the pail:
Filled it up with sand with a "Rock" candle (Dollar Store)  placed inside :
A Pail candle holder:

“One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach; one can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.”
--Anne Morrow Lindbergh
I printed some map images from The Graphics Fairy to wrap the books:
Stacked map covered books tied up in burlap-look ribbon:
Books add wonderful layering to a vignette:

Bird nest made from willow branches and moss:
The little birdie looks quite happy on top of the candle stick:

A ball of shells in a grapevine nest:

Elements that make a vignette:

A vintage mirrored tray makes a wonderful base for everything:
I love the distressed look of this tray from Home Goods:

This old ottoman badly needed a makeover:
Few yards of fabric and upholstery trims:
Transforms it from drab and boring to light and summery:
Before adding the trim:
It was a simple and easy makeover. And the trim finishes it off very nicely, don't you think?

Loving the new transformation:

A wonderful spot to display my tray vignette:
I love decorating with trays. There are so many ways to use them and are very useful in creating instant vignettes:
I hope you liked the summery accents in my living room. It has been raining quite heavily for the last few days and that has kept my yard work on hold. Thanks for taking the time to visit me and for your lovely comments.

  9. I did love your summery beach accent. I was amazed that pail was from the dollar store. Painting the line around the top black was genius. That's what gives it such a great look.

  14. Hi Poppy!

I was so enjoying all the wonderful pictures of your beachy vignette, noting all the cute details... when I just about fell out of my chair!!!

Really! It happened when I came to the picture of your ottoman. I have that same ottoman in the same fabric. What's more is that I am ALSO covering mine... and I JUST got back from the Goodwill store where I got the same bullion fringe for the trim!!!

All I can say is that great minds think alike.

What a delightful vignette you have made in your tray! I love it! Can't choose a favourite as I love everything! I keep meaning to wrap some books and yours look so nice dressed up in the maps. The bucket is wonderful and perfect for a beachy theme. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day.

  27. I've been decorating areas with a beach theme also. I usually just put a dish of shells on the coffee table in the summer, but other bloggers have inspired me to do 3 other areas this summer. I love the maps! What a great idea. I did include a box on my mantle that looks like a suitcase, but I never thought of maps because I just brought in items from other rooms and there were no maps lying around. I may borrow that idea from you and add one to the coffee table.

  33. Hi Poppy, you always amaze me with your creativity. The beachy pail turned out so cute. I love the raffia. Your vignette makes me wish I had sand between my toes. I don't decorate with a beach theme. Love it, but just doesn't quite cut it here so far away from a beach. Always though it would be so fun to have a cottage on a beach. Your ottoman turned out great also. Congrats on being featured. I loved your pots too! Thanks for sharing your peachy beachy vignette with Share Your Cup.
    p.s. I love trays too!
    Hugs,

  34. Oh, how I wish I could sew like that!!!!!! I would "summerize" every stick of furniture in the house!!! I just don't have that sewing gene, though. I get frustrated WAY too easily! You did a great job with it, and that pail you created is really cool! Adding the black paint to the rim of it made a huge difference in it being sappy sweet or rustic cool. Great idea!!!!!!!
