Fields of Lavender

 I love lavender and I had  planted a cluster of them in my perennial border few years ago. A relatively easy plant to grow, it never fails to enthrall me with its beauty every summer. There are many ways to enjoy their beauty all year long.

  
Imagine walking through a field of purple lavender during the peak of lavender season. The vivid lavender blues and the air filled with heady scent of the glorious lavender will have you entranced!

 
I  bought these petite clay pots (buy one get one free - 89cent each:
 
Gave them a white-wash look by dry-brushing some cream acrylic paint:
Decoupaged some Frenchy label from the The Graphics Fairy 

 
It looked too white for my taste, so after sealing the pots, both inside and outside with couple coats of water-based sealer I applied an antiquing medium and removed most of it with a damp cloth... I repeated this process couple times until I was happy with the "look" I was after. After that I applied another coat of the sealer to prevent the antiquing medium from washing off. 


Now these pots are ready for my beautiful lavenders and 
 rosemary!
 I decoupaged some leftover burlap from my Patriotic Tablescape project, all around the top of the pots.

 The luscious beauty of lavenders has me humming this   nineteenth century ditty:
 Lavender's green, dilly, dilly, Lavender's blue, 
If you love me, dilly, dilly, I will love you.
 Let the birds sing, dilly, dilly, And the lambs play;
We shall be safe, dilly, dilly, out of harm's way.
 I love to dance, dilly, dilly, I love to sing; 
When I am queen, dilly, dilly, You'll be my king.


 
Who told me so, dilly, dilly, Who told me so?
I told myself, dilly, dilly, I told me so.

 


 The Apple blossoms from my Spring Tea Party have turned into little green apples and fill up my wire rooster basket:
 Isn't is so much fun decorating with mother nature's rich bounty?

I love using glazed potteries for my summer annuals:

 
Well, the butter in the butter dish started melting in the afternoon sun for my French inspired tablescape( I had to remove it for my photo shoot..lol!)

    Love the way your pots turned out. I'm going to have to check out that Graphic Fairy. My lavender is just getting ready to bloom. Oh, I love it! There is a small town South of us that hold a Lavender Festival every year. They have all kinds of fun lavender crafts. Vinegars, wreaths, and what not. Their fields are something for the eyes to feast on. I had forgot about that song. Thanks for sharing the words.

    Wow Poppy, Beautiful photographs. The lavender is gorgeous, and I've had the same dream of walking through fields in South of France. Your post is a great tutorial on the little pots. I love the white wash and the lavender made a great topiary. I love all your vignettes, and the wire rooster. Thanks for great inspiration.

    Love your little lavender pots! My lavender isn't doing too well this summer but if it does make more of an appearance I may do this! So does it just dry on its own then and you have these all year round? I usually put mine in bags and save it for use during the winter months in baking.

    Love the lavender pots!! I'm totally jealous of your lavender plants!! I cannot grow it here in Houston to save my life, lol!!
    Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and taking the time to leave a comment about my paper peony tutorial :)) You asked how I colored the coffee filters. You're going to laugh when I tell you how I dyed the pink ones but first I have to tell you that I was visiting my son (who is in the Army and stationed at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, basically in the middle of nowhere, lol!!!) so a trip to Hobby Lobby or even Walmart is at the very least a 40 minute drive!
    Okay... are you ready for this?? I used Kool-Aid!!! I had to do it, lol!! I didn't have a choice, seriously!! But it worked really well, believe it or not! And it smelled really good too :)) Of course I didn't add the sugar so there are no problems with ants. But when I make more I will probably use either fabric dye (Rite) I think it is or maybe even some food coloring. I'm not sure. I still need to try some different methods to see which ones I like best. The pink ones were my first ones I made. I'm also going to try making some from tissue paper too. I will post more as I make them :)) So stay tuned!!!
    And if you make some please share with me your methods!! Take care!!

    Those are just lovely! I too love lavender and I don't know why I didn't do it before, but I just started to plant more lavenders in my garden this year and I am planning on adding two more lavenders every year.. or maybe more lavenders every year. They just smell wonderful! :)

    I did love your bucket and even more, the tag you made for it. I had not thought of using graphics on fabric that way and can't wait to try it. I love the Graphics Fairy too!

    I've been having some trouble though, with using modge podge over the graphic print outs. The ink smears.... any words of wisdom/advice you can share with me? Yours always turn out so beautifully!

    I enjoyed this post on lavender! I had done one recently... on June 30th if you're intereted :)
